Chandra barot from dar es salaam, tanzania, east africa reached mumbai and got chance to join manoj kumar, when he made don he also took veeru devgan, for action scenes, whom manoj kumar introduced him as action director in roti kapda aur makaan. Don is chandra barot' only release that was some 38 years ago. Asha bhonsle won award for 'yeh mera dil'. After vinod khanna returned to bombay in 1985, chandra barot in 1987 started a film with vinod khanna, jaya pradha & danny with music by kalyanji anandji and this major film was complete for years, but not released. The tittle of this film is ' Boss '.

The theme music of Don was inspired by Piero Umiliani song "Open Space". The part inspired/recreated start's at 0:24, from the song "Open Space". The part that was eventually recreated in the "Don Title Theme" by Kalyanji Anandji, starts at 0:19. The difference was that Kalyanji Anandji made the tune more fast and funky. Kalyanji Anandji took the basic rift of the song, sped up the temp (rythm), and created their own version. The original song/theme was also used in the film Baba Yaga. Years later, Farhan Akhtar took the intro of "Open Space", from 0:00-0:21, and recreated it for the intro for "Mujhko Pehchaanlo" and "The King Is Back" (Don 2 Theme) at 0:37, for Don 2.

films Films with only background music composed by Salil. I don't know any other music director who composed only the background music for nearly all his films. Well, Salil was incredibly good at it and besides composing all the songs he also composed the background music and the Title music for most of the films in Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and other language films. He also composed the music for quite a few Film Division documentary films and Tele serials. In a recent interview (1992) this was one of the questions Dr. Chandrasekhar Rao of Dubai asked him. I quote Salil's reply :
